why aren’t you listening to…

…Young Summer (@Young_Summer)?  THIS.  We love everything about this.  “Waves That Rolled You Under” is a breathtaking new single from DC-based Young Summer.  It is sexy and shimmery and easy and we love it.  Her sound is part Sade, part Florence Welch, part Bat For Lashes and her Fever DreamEP is one of our favorites of the year.  Get it.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Painted Palms (@PaintedPalms)?  Oh man, how are we supposed to wait until January for Forever, (Painted Palms’ first full length album) to make its debut?  Style Etoile has been loving this San Francisco duo since “Click” and with the release of “Spinning Signs,” we are chomping at the bit for even more psychedelic goodness.  These guys are making unique yet accessible music that seamlessly blends alternative rock, du-wop, and electronica and man, is it good.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Tei Shi (@Tei_Shi_)?  Style Etoile has had Tei Shi’s latest single, “Nevermind the End”, on repeat since its release on November 1st and we can not be more excited about her EP Suadade which drops tomorrow.  The Brooklyn-based songstress is making glittery, soulful synth-pop that sounds like a cross between Lorde and Grimes.  Keep your eyes on this one—she’s going places.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Mutual Benefit (@mutual_benefit)?  Happy Novemeber!  As the days get shorter and the nights colder, we find ourselves turning to simpler, warmer music—music that goes perfectly with some cider and a crackling fire.  Mutual Benefit makes that music.  Their latest release Love’s Crushing Diamond is full of low-fi, ambient, blues-y goodness and we can’t get enough.  These guys remind us of a cross between Antlers and Fleet Foxes with a little Animal Collective thrown in for good measure.  Get it.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Tycho (@iso50)?  One of Style Etoile’s favorite music lovers doesn’t care about lyrics.  We understand the ability of a song to move someone purely based on phonetically, but we usually find more easily connected to those with words.  This is not the case with Tycho’s latest beauty, “Awake”. “Awake” is a teaser for the producer’s upcoming full length (2014) and it is sexy, cathartic and epic.  If your lucky enough to be going to next month’s Fun Fun Fest, make sure you check him out.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Blood Cultures?  Style Etoile wishes we had a little bit more to tell you about Blood Cultures other than the fact that we are in love with his/her/their? “Indian Summer” track, but we don’t.  Luckily for you, the amazingness of this song pretty much speaks for itself.  As the title suggests, this is a dreamy, hazy, warm tune filled with layered synth and pop-y beats—think Cults meets Chvrches with a dash of Weekend Players.  Enjoy.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Oliver Tank (@OliverTank)?  It never ceases to amaze us how certain songs can strike such immediate and deep chords.  When Style Etoile first heard this song, we were instantly transported to a time in our lives where we were overwhelmed with emotions in the best way possible—the kind of emotions that change the trajectory of one’s life.  So maybe that is why we felt such an instant connection to Oliver Tank’s “Different Speed.”  That, or maybe it is simply because of the Australian producer’s brilliant, sexy, emotional beats.  Either way, this is a real gem and we can’t wait for his forthcoming EP.  If you are a fan of Burial, Thom Yorke, and being awesome, you should check this out.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Holychild (@holychildjams)?  Happy October, everyone—let’s get happy!  “Happy With Me” to be exact.  Today Style Etoile brings you a track that is sure to snap you out of those Monday blues.  Holychild is an LA-based synth-pop duo making tracks that are catchy with a an indie side of punch.  Holychild is part Chvrches, part Passion Pit, with a little Cults thrown in for good boy/girl measure.

why aren’t you listening to…

…Arthur Beatrice (@ArthurBeatrice)?  Arthur Beatrice has been on Style Etoile’s radar for a while now, but when they released this summer’s Carter EP, we really sat up and noticed.  Now the British quartet has come in for the one-two punch with the upcoming “Union” release.  This song really hits our morose synth sweet spot with a sound that sounds like a cross between the XX and Style Etoile’s beloved Morrissey.  Keep your ears out for a new album next year…

…Midnight Magic (@MidnightMagicNY)?  When Style Etoile first listened to Midnight Magic’s “Same Way I Feel,” we were confused.  It was awesome, no doubt, but it also had some type of familiarity to it.  We thought we might be hearing a new track from The Sea and Cake, or even Of Montreal, but we were (as usual) wrong.  Brooklyn-based Midnight Magic has taken the disco-funk baton and is running with it all the way to the dance floor.  Style Etoile will be on said dance floor on Halloween as these guys gig it up with Holy Ghost!.  Be there.
